WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new feature that will allow users to transfer and share files offline.

This means that users will be able to share documents, media and other files with their contacts without an internet connection.

The new WhatsApp offline file sharing feature has been spotted by WABetaInfo and is called ‘People Nearby’.

The feature works like the popular Android option Nearby Share and Apple's AirDrop.

NO INTERNET REQUIRED

According to the report, WhatsApp People Nearby uses Bluetooth to transfer files between devices, so it does not require internet.

According to the screenshots shared, there will be a special People Nearby section within the WhatsApp application.

WHEN WILL IT ARRIVE?

WhatsApp states that the Nearby Contacts feature is end-to-end encrypted.

Your phone number will also remain private throughout the discovery and transfer process.

The Nearby Contacts feature is currently under development and was last seen in the Android beta.

It is not yet clear whether this feature will come to iOS users or when WhatsApp plans to roll out this feature to all users.
