Biden said that the United States and its allies helped repel a missile and drone attack on Israel on April 13. He also emphasized that they will impose new sanctions and export controls, holding Iran responsible.

"Our sanctions target the Revolutionary Guard Corps, the Iranian Ministry of Defense, and individuals and entities associated with the Iranian government that support Iran's missile and drone program that carried out this attack," Biden said in a statement.

The US Treasury Department said the measures target 16 individuals and two entities that contribute to Iran's drone production, including the Shahid variant, which provides engines for the drones used in the attacks on Israel.

UK also imposes sanctions on Iran

London has announced that it will impose sanctions on Iran together with Washington.

"Iran's behavior is unacceptable," British Foreign Secretary David Cameron told the G7 foreign ministers meeting in Italy.

"The sanctions show that the UK wants to play a role in developing a coordinated strategy to counter Iranian aggression against Israel," Cameron said, emphasizing their support for Tel Aviv.

In a written statement released by the British Foreign Office, it was stated that in response to Iran's attack on Israel on April 13, the UK, in coordination with the United States, decided to sanction prominent figures in the Iranian military.

Emphasizing that Washington and London aim to tighten the net on Tehran's key players in the drone and missile industries with these sanctions, it was commented that the sanctions will further limit Iran's ability to destabilize the region.

It was noted that among the 7 individuals and 6 organizations sanctioned were the Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy and Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Ashtiani.

Tehran says the attack was in retaliation for Israel's April 1 attack on the Iranian embassy in Damascus, which killed seven people, including two generals.
