Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning made the announcement at the daily press conference in Beijing, stating that Minister Vang will discuss bilateral relations and international and regional issues of common concern with US officials during his visit.

Stating that the Chinese Minister will hold friendly contacts with different segments of society, Spokesperson Mao said that Vang will "convey to his interlocutors China's principled stance and legitimate concerns in its relations with the United States."

"We hope that the US side will work with China to strengthen communication and dialogue in accordance with the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, expand practical cooperation, appropriately manage differences, and put bilateral relations back on the path of sound and stable development," Mao said.

Seeking dialogue in US-China relations

Vang's visit is of critical importance at a time when US-China relations have been strained by geopolitical and economic rivalries and the search for dialogue has increased.

Washington-Beijing relations, which came to a standstill due to the crisis caused by the entry of a Chinese high-altitude balloon into US airspace in February, have recently intensified high-level contacts.

After Secretary of State Antony Blinken's visit to China in June, which was canceled due to the balloon crisis, US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and Special Envoy for Climate Change John Kerry visited the country in July and Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo visited the country in August.

A group of senators led by US Senate Majority Leader Senator Chuck Schumer also visited China earlier this month and were received by President Xi Jinping.

Gavin Newsom, Governor of the US state of California, is also in China for a visit these days.
APEC Summit and Biden-Shi meeting

Chinese President Xi Jinping is scheduled to attend the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit to be held in San Francisco, US in November, where he is scheduled to meet with President Joe Biden.

During Chinese Foreign Minister Vang's visit, the details of Xi's participation in the summit and his possible meeting with Biden are expected to be discussed.

Biden and Xi last met face-to-face in November 2022 at the G20 Summit on the Indonesian island of Bali. This year, Biden attended the G20 Summit in New Delhi, the capital of India, while the Chinese leader did not attend.
