In a post on X, D. Maria Van Kerkhove, one of WHO's pandemic preparedness experts, stated that the risk posed by Covid-19 in the community is high globally.

Van Kerkhove stated that case-based reporting is not a reliable indicator and that the COVID-19 pathogen continues to spread all over the world.

Stating that the circulation level of the disease is 19 times higher than reported, Van Kerkhove underlined that the data showing that 10 thousand people die from Covid-19 monthly is taken from only 50 countries.

Van Kerkhove also shared the information that there was a 42 percent increase in hospitalizations due to Covid-19 and a 62 percent increase in the number of patients hospitalized in intensive care in December compared to the previous month.
