In a televised speech, Pakistani Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar announced a decision to ban all New Year celebrations as a show of solidarity with the Palestinians who have been subjected to heavy Israeli bombardment since October 7.

Prime Minister Kakar said that the war had led to a catastrophe and added: "The entire Pakistani people and the Muslim world are deeply saddened by the genocide of unarmed Palestinians, especially children, in Gaza and the West Bank. In view of the extremely worrying situation in Palestine and to express solidarity with our Palestinian brothers and sisters, it has been decided to ban all activities related to the New Year celebrations. I appeal to all Pakistanis to show solidarity with the oppressed Palestinians."
