Diego Nicolas Marset Alba, the brother of the leader of the South American drug cartel Primer Cartel Uruguayo, was captured in Brazil in a joint operation on Tuesday, December 26, Interpol announced today.

Alba, a 22-year-old Uruguayan national, had been evading the law for many years by using multiple fake identities from Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay.

WIFE'S BIRTH LED TO HIS CAPTURE

Diego Nicolas Marset Alba played a 'central role' in the drug trade from South America to Europe, Interpol said, adding that Alba was also involved in several high-profile murders. Interpol received intelligence that Alba's wife was about to give birth in Foz de Iguacu, Brazil. "Anticipating the possibility that Marset would come to Brazil for the birth, the Brazilian Federal Police monitored his wife's home and detained the fugitive when he arrived," Interpol said.
