The trial of Donald Trump, the first former US President to be tried in a criminal case in US history, began today in New York. Former US President Trump and his team arrived at the Manhattan Criminal Court.
Reaching the court, Trump described the criminal case against him as "defamation".
In the trial known as the "hush money case", 34 separate charges are being brought against Trump.
Among them is the allegation that he paid Stormy Daniels, an adult film actress, as a business expense to cover up the money he paid her before the 2016 presidential election.
Prosecutors see Trump's payment of "hush money" as a violation of federal election law.
Trump, who denies the charges against him, calls the case a "political witch hunt".
The court also rejected Trump's request for an adjournment on the grounds that he is immune from criminal prosecution as a former president.

It is stated that Donald Trump could face a prison sentence as a result of the trial. The 77-year-old Trump could face up to four years in prison if found guilty. Trump, who is a candidate for the US elections in November, could become a convicted criminal before the election due to this historic case.
