US President Joe Biden said that Republicans who are mobilizing for an impeachment investigation against him "want to impeach him in order to shut down the government."
Biden spoke for the first time about the statements regarding the impeachment investigation against him at a donation event held in Virginia. Stating that he does not know why the Republicans want to impeach him, Biden commented, "I can say that they want to impeach me because they want to shut down the government."
Biden said Republican House of Representatives member Taylor Greene has wanted to impeach him since the first day of his presidency.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy officially called for an impeachment investigation against Biden on September 12. McCarthy announced that Republicans in the House of Representatives had made "serious and credible" allegations against Biden, and that the Justice, Oversight and Financial Legislation Committee, which has been working on these allegations recently, would jointly conduct the impeachment investigation.
