Drawing attention to the fact that eye rubbing can cause some eye health problems, the eye health specialist said, "Eye rubbing can cause eye infections because we carry germs into our eyes with our hands, and excessive pressure applied to the eye can cause long-term retinal damage, allergic reactions, dry eye, trauma to the eye surface and keratoconus."

"CAN CAUSE EYE INFECTIONS"

Referring to the fact that rubbing our eyes can cause some eye health problems, the expert said, "Eye rubbing can cause eye infections because we carry germs into our eyes with our hands, and excessive pressure applied to the eye can cause long-term retinal damage, allergic reactions, dry eye, and trauma on the eye surface. It can also cause astigmatism as it changes the shape of the cornea."

"KERATOCONUS MAY CAUSE VISION LOSS OVER TIME"

Pointing out that eye rubbing can also lead to corneal disease called keratoconus, the expert said, "Keratoconus is when the cornea, which is located in the front part of our eye and has a transparent structure, tapers forward and takes the shape of a cone. It has been determined that this disease, the cause of which we do not know exactly, occurs as a result of genetic transmission through scientific studies. Some connective tissue diseases and rubbing the eye may be among the risk factors. As the shape of the cornea deteriorates, the refractive power of the eye changes and progressive myopia and astigmatism occur. This may impair the quality of vision of the person and cause vision loss in the future."

"MOST COMMON BETWEEN THE AGES OF 10-20"

Talking about the age of the disease, the expert said, "Although keratoconus varies, it is most common between the ages of 10-20. The disease is more common in the 10-20s. The reason why it is more common at these ages is that the development and growth of the eye continues and after the age of 40, the body naturally strengthens the cornea and stabilizes the disease."

"AFFECTS BOTH EYES"

Experts warned: The next pandemic will be caused by the flu virus! Experts warned: The next pandemic will be caused by the flu virus!

Explaining the symptoms of keratoconus disease, the expert said, "It usually affects both eyes. It can cause very different problems between the two eyes. Symptoms may progress differently in each eye and vary over time."

"PAY ATTENTION TO THE SYMPTOMS OF REDNESS IN THE EYE AND BLURRED VISION"

Slight blurring of vision, slight distortion of vision due to straight lines appearing bent or wavy, sensitivity to light and glare, redness or swelling of the eye.

Stating that the symptoms become more pronounced in advanced stages, the expert stated that the symptoms of advanced keratoconus are visual impairment and increase in blurred vision, increase in myopia or astigmatism findings and the need for glasses, contact lenses do not fit the eye or cause discomfort because the cornea protrudes.

The cornea may suddenly swell and permanent hardening of the cornea called scarring may begin. Cornea; When this scar tissue called scarring appears, it loses its softness and clarity. As a result, vision becomes even more distorted and blurred.
