The USS Bataan amphibious ship carrying the 26th Marine Corps Expeditionary Task Force, which the US sent to the Middle East in August, began moving toward the Suez Canal late last week, CNN reported, citing unnamed US officials.
The ship, which has been stationed in the Red Sea since August, will soon arrive in the eastern Mediterranean, an official said.
This will bring the ship closer to Israel and Lebanon, the official said, adding that one of the ship's missions is to help evacuate civilians.
On October 18, the US had called on its citizens in Lebanon to leave the country.
