In the statement, it was noted that the plane, with a total of 211 passengers and a crew of 18, entered severe turbulence in the airspace in the region where tropical storms were experienced.

"Singapore Airlines extends its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased," the statement said, adding that 1 passenger died and more than 30 passengers were injured due to the turbulence.

3PlusNews, a broadcasting organization based in Thailand, also stated that emergency teams are providing medical intervention to those affected by the incident.

The plane was scheduled to land at Singapore Changi Airport at 18:10 local time.
