According to The Times of India, YouTuber Kumar, who lives in the state of Telangana, shared a video of him preparing and eating "chicken bird curry" on his YouTube channel.
Police raided Kumar's home yesterday after reactions to the footage of the eating of the protected peacock, which is also considered the country's national bird.
Kumar was taken into custody and a case has been filed against him under relevant sections of the Wildlife Protection Act, police said in a statement.
Social media users accused Kumar of encouraging the consumption of protected animals and disrespecting a national symbol.
Following the backlash, the "chicken bird curry" video was removed from YouTube.
