Madison Bergmann, a 24-year-old elementary school teacher living in the US who started working at River Crest Elementary School in 2022, was arrested less than three months before her wedding for allegedly having sexual intercourse with an 11-year-old 5th grade student.

According to CBS News Minnesota, Bergmann's alleged abuse of the 11-year-old boy came to light when the student's mother overheard her son talking to the teacher on the phone.
The victim's parents allegedly found the messages between the two, and the boy's father later printed out the conversations and raided River Crest Elementary School.

The communication between them included messages in which Bergmann allegedly said they were together more than once during lunch or in the classroom after school.

She was also accused of telling the boy "how much she enjoyed him touching her and being with her," the charging documents state.

Police also allegedly found a folder in her purse with the victim's name and handwritten notes describing their feelings for each other.

"One of my cousins is in fifth grade and I can't imagine a man talking to her the way we talk. I know we have a special relationship and I love you more than anyone in the world, but I have to be the adult here," Bergmann said in one of the letters.

It is unclear how long the abuse had been going on, but Bergmann told authorities that the boy's phone number was given to him by his mother in December, and that he had been invited to the Afton Alps for winter vacation because the family thought he was a favorite teacher.

That was also the month she got engaged to her longtime boyfriend.

The Hudson School District told parents the same day of her arrest that the accused teacher has since been placed on administrative leave and prohibited from contacting district students, parents or staff.

According to his social media, Bergmann would have gotten married two months later in July had he not been arrested.

Bergmann, who faces a charge of first-degree sexual assault of children, (was released on $25,000 bail.
