In the case, Supreme Court justices will examine whether Colorado's decision to remove Trump from the ballot in connection with the January 6 attack on Congress was lawful.

The Supreme Court's decision is of great importance as it will set a precedent for other states. If the Supreme Court does not rule that Trump's exclusion from the primary ballot in Colorado was unlawful, many other states could follow suit and prevent Trump from running.

Trump, who is leading the race for the Republican Party's presidential nomination, is almost certain to win the primaries and face US President Joe Biden, unless legal proceedings prevent him from doing so.

The Supreme Court is being pressured to make its decision on Trump before March 5, when the Republican Party will hold primaries in 15 states, including Colorado.

Despite the state's decision, Trump's name will remain on the ballot until the Supreme Court makes a decision. The state of Maine will similarly wait for the judges' decision.

Anti-Trump groups have long called for the use of Article 14, Section 3 of the US Constitution, which prevents insurgents from holding public office and bars Trump from running in 2024. This law was enacted during the US Civil War to prevent former Confederates from holding office.
