In a written statement from the US Department of Defense (Pentagon), it was noted that the US "took steps to strengthen the Department of Defense's position in the region in support of regional deterrence efforts."
In the statement, it was emphasized that the USS Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier and accompanying cruisers and attack ships were directed towards the Eastern Mediterranean to be ready to assist Israel in the attacks launched by Hamas.
It was also stated that steps have been taken to increase the US Air Force's fleet of F-35, F-15, F-16 and A-10 fighter jets in the region, adding, "The United States has its forces ready globally to further strengthen this deterrence posture if necessary."
The statement also said that the US will continue to provide additional equipment and resources, including ammunition, to the Israeli army starting today.
The USS Gerald R. Ford strike group, which conducted naval exercises with Italy in the Ionian Sea last week, is known as the newest and most advanced US aircraft carrier.

US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin has reportedly ordered a fleet of aircraft carriers to the eastern Mediterranean to be ready to assist Israel in the attacks launched by Hamas.
