In Iowa, where the presidential election race traditionally begins, 82 percent of the ballot boxes have been opened as the vote counting process nears the end of the primary elections pitting Republican candidates against each other.

According to the unofficial results announced by the AP news agency, Trump took the lead in Iowa, leaving his rivals Nikki Haley, former US Permanent Representative to the UN, and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis behind. Haley and DeSantis are reportedly waiting for the final results to win the runner-up seat.

As the vote counting process nears the end of the primary elections in Iowa, where the presidential election race in the US traditionally begins, 82 percent of the ballot boxes were opened.

According to the unofficial results announced by the AP news agency, Trump took the lead in Iowa, leaving his rivals Nikki Haley, former US Permanent Representative to the UN, and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis behind. Haley and DeSantis are reportedly awaiting final results in order to win the runner-up seat.

According to the tentative results, Trump received more than 51 percent of the votes in this state and was declared the winner of the race. DeSantis is following the vote counting process with 21 percent and Haley with 19 percent.

On the other hand, another Republican candidate, Vivek Ramaswamy, seems to have received 7 percent support.

The next primary elections in the US will be held on January 23 in the state of New Hampshire and the primary election process will continue until June 8.

At the party conventions in July and August, both the Democratic Party and the Republican Party will nominate their official candidates for the presidential elections.

On November 5, the winner of the presidential election will take office on January 20, 2025.
