According to the data released, McDonald's sales fell in October, November and December in many countries with dense Muslim populations. The biggest decline was observed in Malaysia and Indonesia. 

"As long as this conflict continues, I don't expect any improvement here. It's a human tragedy, and I think it affects companies like us," Kempczinski said in a conference call, Al Jazeera reported.

The company's units in the Middle East, China and India were expected to post sales growth of about 5.5 percent in the last quarter. The increase remained at 0.7 percent. 

McDonald's Israel donated thousands of free meals to the army after the start of the war. McDonald's franchises in many Middle Eastern countries have tried to distance themselves from McDonald's Israel. 

Starbuck, on the other hand, said it missed sales targets in its first quarter results announced last week. While growth was expected to be 6.4 percent in the 3 months leading up to January, it remained at 5 percent globally. 

"We had a negative impact in the Middle East," said Starbucks CEO Laxman Narasimhan.
