Two activists from the non-governmental organization "Riposte Alimentaire", who threw pumpkin soup at Leonardo de Vinci's Mona Lisa, protested by entering the area surrounding the painting.

Two activists belonging to the non-governmental organization "Riposte Alimentaire" threw pumpkin soup at the painting and protested by entering the area surrounding the work.

Riposte Alimentaire works for "the right to healthy and sustainable food for all".

The activists asked, "Which is more important? Art or the right to healthy and sustainable food? Our agricultural system is sick," the activists said.

Mona Lisa painting unharmed by the action

"Farmers are dying from working," the activists said during their protest, referring to the days-long protests by farmers across the country who have complained of low incomes, pointing out that farmers are not getting paid for their work.

The Mona Lisa painting, protected by a glass showcase, was not damaged by the protest.
