As the clashes between Israel and Hamas continue on their 11th day, the US has placed nearly 2,000 troops on high readiness.

In a statement released by the US Department of Defense, it was announced that by order of US Secretary of Defense Llyod Austin, approximately 2,000 troops have been placed in a state of high readiness to be ready for deployment.

The order enhances the ability of the US to respond quickly to the evolving security situation in the Middle East, the statement said: "No decision has been made to deploy any forces at this time. Secretary Austin will continue to assess our force posture and remain in close contact with allies and partners."

US extends aircraft carrier's mission

The statement said that Gerald R. Ford and its accompanying task group, the second aircraft carrier sent to the Eastern Mediterranean in support of Israel, approved the extension of its mission, adding that Gerald R. Ford and its accompanying task group are nearing the end of their six-month mission in the area of responsibility of the US European Command.
