The Multilayered Integrated Stabilization Mission (Minusma) was deployed after the armed uprising in Mail in 2013. The country's military leadership demanded that the Peacekeeping Force leave the country.

The director of the mission stated that they had achieved a lot, but they could not reach their goals.

310 Peacekeepers were killed in Minusma, making it the second deadliest mission in UN history after Lebanon.

This summer, Mali decided that 12,000 Peacekeepers should leave the country and the UN Security Council voted to withdraw the mission. The UN team was gradually withdrawing before the December 31 deadline.

On Friday, local media reported that Minusma had handed over 9 camps north of Timbuktu to the government before the deadline for security reasons.
