Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte announced that they will send 18 F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine.

Rutte announced that 18 F-16 fighter jets will be delivered to Ukraine in a post on his X account after his phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Emphasizing that the decision "confirms Ukraine's determination to provide the military support Ukraine needs" in the Russia-Ukraine war, Rutte stated that the delivery of the jets requires export authorization from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the fulfillment of personnel and infrastructure criteria in Ukraine.

Rutte did not give a date for when the necessary procedures for delivery would be completed.

Stating that the EU Council's decision to open accession negotiations with Ukraine was also discussed during the meeting, Rutte said that he assured Zelenski that he would "make every effort to reach an agreement on 50 billion euros in financial aid to Ukraine at the extraordinary summit, which is expected to convene on February 1 next year."

Zelenski, on the other hand, thanked Rutte for the F-16 fighter jet decision in his post on X and said, "I emphasized the importance of providing Ukraine with 50 billion euros in financial aid as soon as possible."

Ukraine, which has been at war with Russia since February 2022, has long requested fighter jets from Western countries. Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway and Belgium have announced that they would provide Ukraine with F-16 fighter jets.

In November, Romania opened a center to train Ukrainian pilots in F-16 fighter jets.
