Sanchez spoke to reporters on the plane en route to Jordan, the first stop on his three-day visit to the Middle East.

According to Spanish media reports, Sanchez said that he believes there will be important developments in the international community between April and June regarding the conflict between Israel and Hamas and that attention should be paid in the coming weeks to discussions at the United Nations aimed at recognizing Palestine as a full member.

Sanchez announced that the joint decision taken with the prime ministers of Ireland, Malta and Slovenia on the recognition of the Palestinian state will be implemented before the summer if the right conditions are met. Sanchez said that his country will first take the decision to recognize the Palestinian state in the Council of Ministers and then present it to the Parliament.

Sanchez emphasized that he believes that recognition of Palestine is the only way to guarantee peace and security in the region in the open war between Israel and Hamas.

After Jordan, the Spanish Prime Minister will travel to Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
