"There's an actress that everybody loves right now, Sydney Sweeney. I don't understand Sydney Sweeney. I was on the plane watching Anyone but You, the movie she starred in, because I wanted to watch it," Baum said, adding, "I wanted to know who she was and why everyone was talking about her. I watched this unwatchable movie. I apologize to those who loved this movie... You know, this romantic comedy where they hate each other."
"WHY IS THIS GIRL SO POPULAR?"
Baum, an adjunct professor at the University of Southern California, said; "I said to my class, 'Explain this girl to me. She's not beautiful, she can't act. Why is she so popular?' Nobody had an answer. But then the question was asked: 'Well, if you could get your movie made with her in it, would you do it?' That's a very difficult question to answer because we all want the movie to be made and who would run away from the green light? Nobody I know. Your job is to get the movie made," he continued.

Responding to these criticisms in a statement to Variety through her representative, Sydney Sweeney said, "It's sad that a woman in a position to share her expertise and experience would instead choose to attack another woman."

"If this is what he has learned in his decades in the industry and what he sees fit to teach his students, it's shameful. To unfairly insult a fellow female producer speaks volumes about Baum's character," she continued.
Baum reportedly told TMZ that he regretted his comments and that he doesn't normally speak negatively about a player in this way.
