Six people were found dead near the Mojave Desert in California. According to local media, the scene was so gruesome that many local television stations had to blur footage captured by helicopter cameras.

Five of the bodies were found Tuesday evening by San Bernardino County Sheriff's department deputies at a dirt intersection outside the community of El Mirage.

The sixth was found Wednesday morning, according to sheriff's spokeswoman Mara Rodriguez. Rodriguez said investigations into the incident are ongoing and authorities have not yet determined how these people died.

Because of the remoteness of the area, which is far outside the residential neighborhood, the Sheriff's Department called in help from the California Department of Aviation to locate the scene, Rodriguez said.

Television crews arriving at the scene reported seeing two vehicles at the scene.

Members of the department's special investigation division have been assigned to conduct a homicide investigation into the deaths of the six people.
