Sgt. Gabriel Ceville, who was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Liberty in North Carolina, is accused of causing fatal head injuries to his daughter Misty Delatorre in February 2023.
The child's death was ruled a homicide by the North Carolina Medical Examiner's Office.
Ceville will stand trial on charges of "manslaughter" and "domestic violence" in Misty's death.
Misty's mother said, "We divorced with joint custody. I didn't expect him to be a monster. It's a step forward but far from justice. He has been arrested but has not yet been fully tried. I can't grieve properly for my baby because justice has not been served. It is unbelievable that an 8-month-old innocent baby was subjected to such violence. I will not stop until that monster is jailed for life. I found my daughter with serious head and eye injuries that looked like a car accident. She was covered in blood," he said.
