In a statement to reporters, Scottish Regional First Minister Yusuf said that his wife's mother and father, who live in Scotland, were in Gaza to visit his father-in-law's 92-year-old sick mother during the developments in Israel and Gaza and were stranded in the region.

Stating that the Israelis told them to leave the country, but that it was not possible for them to leave the country, Yusuf said that the British Foreign Office could not guarantee safe passage.

Yusuf said, "As many people know, my wife is Palestinian. Her parents live in Dundee, Scotland. They have been to Gaza and I am afraid they are now trapped in Gaza."

Youssef said that they were worried about whether his mother-in-law and father-in-law would survive, adding that they "couldn't sleep at night" because of their anxiety and sadness.
