The space rock, called 12P/Pons-Brooks, is a comet known as a cryovolcano or cold volcano.

ESTIMATED DIAMETER 30 KM

It has a solid core with an estimated diameter of 30 km and is made up of ice, dust and gases that move like carbonate in a fizzy drink bottle.

This is the second time in four months that this has happened to Pons-Brooks, creating an image that looks like a giant pair of horns when viewed through a telescope.

Astronomers have announced that a comet three times the size of Mount Everest has exploded in space and is now hurtling towards Earth.

The star, which is expected to pass by the Earth tangentially, will reach the closest point of the planet on April 21, 2024 and will be visible to the naked eye.

Some think the horseshoe-like shape also resembles the Millennium Falcon spaceship from Star Wars.

The space rock is the size of the famous Halley's comet and was last seen on Earth with the naked eye in 1954.
