Ukraine claimed that the Russian commander was killed in the attack on the Crimean Peninsula. Ukrainian special forces said in a statement that Viktor Sokolov, commander of Russia's Black Sea Fleet, was killed in a missile attack on the headquarters in Sevastopol on Friday last week.

The statement said that 34 people, including the commander, were killed and 105 Russian soldiers were wounded. Ukrainian special forces noted that the attacked headquarters was beyond repair.

While Russia has not yet made a statement regarding Ukraine's claim, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that one soldier was missing after the attack. Ukrainian Armed Forces, on the other hand, announced that 9 people lost their lives.
