According to a joint poll by the New York Times and Siena College, the vice president leads the former president by four points, 50 percent to 46 percent, in the crucial swing states of Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan.
The polls were conducted among 2,000 people between August 5 and 9, the same week Harris announced Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her vice presidential running mate.
The polls clearly show that President Joe Biden's withdrawal from the Democratic Party's presidential nomination was favorably received by voters. At the time of Biden's candidacy, polls showed the President either trailing or tied with Trump in swing states.
Most respondents said they found Harris more intelligent, honest and calm than Trump.
Every presidential or midterm election in the US is decided by the so-called "swing states" that swing back and forth between Democrats and Republicans. Parties focus their campaign efforts especially in these swing states, which they see as critically important "swing voters".
