A group of members of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) organized an anti-war protest on the railroad tracks in Alexandroupoli. The protesters shouted slogans such as "Alexandroupoli is not the castle of imperialists, but the port of peoples".

The protesters barricaded the railroad tracks and stopped the train carrying US and NATO tanks. During the demonstration, where Palestinian flags were also carried, a demonstrator wrote "Murderers, go back to your homes" on the tank on the train.

Alexandroupoli, near the borders of Turkey and Bulgaria, had become an alternative route for the shipment of NATO military equipment to Eastern Europe via Romania and Bulgaria after the war in Ukraine.
