US President Joe Biden will meet with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Charles Michel on October 20, ahead of the settlement of the dispute between the US and the European Union (EU) over tariffs on steel and aluminum.

The aim of the meeting is to strengthen the transatlantic partnership, send a strong message on Ukraine, and discuss sanctions against Russia and ways to prevent them from being broken, a senior EU official said.

The meeting also discussed the possibility of reintroducing tariffs on steel and aluminum and retaliatory EU tariffs after October 31 if there is no agreement on US-EU steel tariffs.
