Scientists at Columbia University examined the plastic bottled products of three popular water brands in the country.

Using advanced laser scanning techniques, the experts found an average of 240,000 plastic particles in a liter bottle of water. Scientists also announced that this rate is about 100 times higher than previously estimated.

Scientists said that these plastic particles can affect internal organs and cause cancer and reproductive problems.

Explaining that these particles are much smaller than previously thought and therefore may be toxic, experts also stated that these toxic particles can affect blood cells and the brain. Scientists also stated that these particles contain a chemical called phthalate, which makes plastics more durable and flexible.
