NEW CATEGORY ADDED

A new category has been added to Hollywood's most prestigious awards. The category in which casting directors will receive an award is called "Best Achievement in Casting".

This category will apply to films that will be released in 2025 and will compete in the 2026 Academy Awards.

"Casting directors play an important role in filmmaking, and we are proud to add the Best Achievement in Casting Award category to the disciplines we recognize and celebrate as the Academy evolves," said Academy CEO Bill Kramer and president Janet Yang.

NO NEW CATEGORY ADDED FOR 23 YEARS

For the first time in more than 20 years, a new category has been added to the Academy Awards. The last time the Best Animated Feature category was added was in 2001.
