"26 people have been confirmed dead, mostly women and children, and more than 30 people have been rescued," Niger State Governor's spokesman Bologi Ibrahim said in a statement. The rescue operation by the maritime police and local divers in cooperation with the Niger State Emergency Management Agency is ongoing."
On the other hand, last July, a boat carrying guests returning from a wedding on the Niger River in Nigeria capsized, killing 103 people in the accident.
