A ferry carrying more than 100 people, including women and children, capsized in Mokwa local government area in Niger state of Nigeria.


"26 people have been confirmed dead, mostly women and children, and more than 30 people have been rescued," Niger State Governor's spokesman Bologi Ibrahim said in a statement. The rescue operation by the maritime police and local divers in cooperation with the Niger State Emergency Management Agency is ongoing."

On the other hand, last July, a boat carrying guests returning from a wedding on the Niger River in Nigeria capsized, killing 103 people in the accident.
