Daquan Armstead, 31, was accused of striking the women in the face, back and head during the attacks, which he reportedly carried out over a long period of time. All 7 women reported being attacked by the same man with similar characteristics for an unknown reason.
It was shared that the attacks happened to many women ranging in age from their early 20s to their 40s. According to police figures cited by NBC News, there have been more than 90 unprovoked attacks on people in Manhattan so far this year, 50 of them against women.
Armstead faces charges of hate crime, attempted assault and aggravated harassment, a New York Police Department spokesperson said.
All of the alleged attacks occurred in the Greenwich Village, Tribeca and Bowery neighborhoods, police said. Much of the footage of the attacks was shared on social media.
