US rapper Lil Jon, whose real name is Jonathan Mortimer Smith Lil Jon, went to the King Fahad Mosque in the city of Los Angeles before Friday prayers and declared his conversion to Islam in the witness of a crowded congregation.

Lil Jon, upon the guidance of the imam of the mosque, made the shahada first in Arabic and then in English. Born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1972, rapper Lil Jon is known for his pioneering role in promoting the hip-hop subgenre in the early 2000s.

Lil Jon, who has more than 1 million followers on social media and is known to be interested in mystical beliefs, recently released a meditation album that attracted great attention.

Lil Jon became the second US person to convert to Islam during Ramadan, following US writer and activist Shaun King.
