Meta is experimenting with a new way to show ads to its users on the Instagram platform.

Called "ad break", this method requires users to first watch an ad in order to browse Instagram.

Some users on Reddit and X/Twitter noted that unskippable ads are being tested on the platform, which could have a negative impact on the user experience.

Unskippable ads have been seen on other platforms such as YouTube. However, such ads have not yet appeared on Instagram.

Although we have not personally seen an unskippable ad on Instagram, such ads can be seen on the platform with the new ad type.

HOW DOES THE UNSKIPPABLE AD WORK?

These ads pop up suddenly while you're browsing Intagram, last for a few seconds with a counter at the bottom, and force you to watch the content of the ad before continuing to use the app.

"Meta has top UX designers, didn't they do any research before releasing this to the public? It completely disrupts the user's flow."
