There was a human tragedy at the US-Mexico border, where thousands of irregular migrants flocked to cross into the US through Mexico.

US police officer Gloria Chavez posted on her social media account that patrol officers found a 2-month-old child abandoned in the border area near the city of Rio Grande in the state of Texas.

"This is a chilling reminder of how children are exploited every day by human traffickers and criminal organizations," Chavez said. Sharing a photo of the baby, Chavez stated that he was undergoing a medical checkup.

On the other hand, Texas Department of Public Safety officials recently found the lifeless body of a 3-year-old boy in the Rio Grande. The child had been swept away while his family was trying to cross the river at the border to cross into the United States.

On September 13, it was announced that a 10-year-old boy from Honduras drowned in the border river. In August, two Honduran children, aged 4 and 12, were found abandoned by smugglers in the Rio Grande.

RECORD INCREASE IN CROSSINGS TO THE US

The number of irregular migrants arriving in the US through Mexico in the hope of obtaining asylum status reached a record 142,000 in recent days.
