Tim Chen, a university student whose rent in Vancouver had risen to 2,500 dollars, found the solution to move in with his family when he could not pay his rent.
However, Calgary, where Tim Chen's family lives, is 430 kilometers away from Vancouver. Chen found a solution to the distance problem with air travel.
Saying that the flight from Calgary to Vancouver took about 1 hour and 40 minutes, Chen said he paid about 110 dollars for the flight.
"I had to pay something like 2,500 dollars for rent, so I don't think it's feasible," Chen said.
Speaking to CTV News, Chen said he pays about $150 per round-trip flight twice a week, which amounts to about $1,200 a month, adding, "This is half the average rent for a one-bedroom apartment in the city."
Chen sad:
"I don't go to school every day, I only have to attend two classes a week. I have a total of 3 hours of class and after class I take the bus to the airport and from there I go home."
Chen said that an ordinary day like this is like taking the bus, and that he will graduate in May, saying, "After graduation, traveling by plane will be over for me."
