An emergency spending bill to provide $110 billion in security assistance to Ukraine and Israel was blocked by Republican members of the US Senate.
In a vote in the Senate, the upper house of the US Congress, a spending bill that would provide $110 billion in emergency security assistance to Israel and Ukraine was blocked by the veto of Republican Party senators.
The vote was rejected with 49 votes in favor to 51 against, and the $110.5 billion bill fell short of the 60 votes needed to pass the 100-member Senate.
The blockade has for now killed President Joe Biden's attempt to secure new aid for the two warring countries before the end of 2023.
Instead of aid to Israel and Ukraine, Republicans demanded that the government take tougher measures to control immigration at the US border with Mexico.
