Health Service Enforcement Ireland (HSE) warned that high doses of MDMA pills were circulating at the Electric Picnic Festival. In a post on the X platform, the HSE stated that these pills cause medical emergencies and lead to seizures.
The HSE is providing drug testing and waste management services at testing centers at the festival, aiming to reduce harm to attendees. Electric Picnic, Ireland's annual music and arts festival, attracts around 75,000 participants.
Nicki Killeen of the HSE's Harm Reduction Safe Nightlife program said all medical tents at the festival are “safe spaces” and those seeking help will not face any negative consequences.
Colm Burke, Ireland's Minister for Public Health, Wellbeing and National Drug Strategy, said: “It is always safer not to use drugs, but it is important to reduce the risks for those who choose to do so.”
