"After former President's lawyers said they couldn't obtain bail to appeal the $454 million civil fraud judgment against him and his two children, Donald Trump attacked New York Attorney General Letitia James.
In his statement, Trump accused the prosecutor of conducting an 'illegal witch hunt' against him for bringing up the case that ruled his properties' and assets' values have been inflated by presenting fraudulent financial statements for years.
Trump also lashed out at Judge Arthur Engoron who ordered the former president to pay a $355 million fine after determining that he had fraudulently inflated the value of his properties in his financial statements, instructing this fine to be increased to $454 million with interest, including Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida and the triplex apartment at Trump Tower in Manhattan.
On Monday, Trump's lawyers said the Republican couldn't obtain a $464 million cash bond, including the payment requested by his two sons, Donald Jr. and Eric, to appeal the decision, after being rejected by about 30 bond companies. If Trump doesn't pay the fine or cash bond by March 25, the risk of seizure of the former president's assets is imminent.
"The bond set by Judge, controlled by the Democrat Club, in league with Racist Letitia James’s illegal Witch Hunt Corrupt’ation, is unconstitutional, un-American, unprecedented, and nearly impossible for ANY Company, including the most successful ones like mine, to secure," Trump said in his statement, noting that Bond Companies had never heard of a bond of this magnitude and wouldn't have the ability to send such a bond even if they wanted to."
