Police in Slovakia have fined the owner of a dog caught on a speed camera behind the wheel.

According to BBC, the police posted a photo on Facebook showing a smiling dog behind the wheel of a Skoda. The dog's owner claimed that he was in the driver's seat when the dog suddenly jumped into his lap.

However, authorities said that footage of the incident, which took place in the village of Streusy, northeast of the capital Bratislava, did not show the dog suddenly jumping into the lap.

"Even a small animal can endanger your life and health while driving," Slovakian police said in a statement, reminding pet owners to secure their animals on the road.
