Government Spokesperson Jean-Emmanuel Ouedraogo announced in a statement that the members of the gang that planned a coup against the transitional government on January 14 were captured.

Ouedraogo noted that many military personnel, civilians and activists took part in the coup attempt and that the investigation process is ongoing.

Ibrahim Traore, the leader of the current transitional government, took the presidency by overthrowing Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, who came to power in a coup on September 30, 2022.

Damiba also overthrew then President Roch Marc Christian Kabore and seized power in January 2022.
