According to a statement made by the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Minister Vang exchanged views on the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine in a telephone conversation with Malaysian Foreign Minister Zambry Abdul Kadir.
Stating that China opposes any aggression that harms innocent civilians and violates international law, Vang said, "In the Palestinian issue, we always stand for peace, international law, and the legitimate demands of Arab and Islamic countries."
Emphasizing his support for the joint statement of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) on the situation in the Gaza Strip, Vang said, "When it comes to war and peace, all parties should put aside geopolitical considerations, adhere to conscience and prevent greater humanitarian disasters by achieving an international consensus that will end the war as soon as possible."
Emphasizing that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is rooted in the continued occupation of Palestinian territories and the long-standing ignoring of Palestinian demands for statehood, Vang said the fundamental way to resolve the conflict is to implement the two-state solution and ensure the peaceful coexistence of Palestine and Israel.
China supports giving the Palestinian nation its legitimate rights and effectively implementing the United Nations Security Council resolutions to put the Palestinian issue back on the path of peaceful settlement, Vang said, adding that China is ready to strengthen communication with Malaysia and other peace-loving countries to continue efforts for peace in the Middle East.
For his part, Malaysian Foreign Minister Zambry expressed his appreciation for China's efforts to promote ceasefire, cessation of hostilities, protection of civilians, dialogue and peace talks, stressing that they are unanimous in their support for a two-state solution and lasting peace in the Middle East.
The Malaysian Minister expressed the expectation that China will play an important role to ensure that the conflicting parties return to the negotiating table as soon as possible.
