Savitri Kumar, who said that she often argued with her husband because she had given birth to a disabled child, said that she threw the child into a river full of crocodiles on her husband's instructions.
Neighbors who saw the incident informed the police, divers tried to search for the child, but the search was fruitless. Later, during further search efforts, the child's mutilated body was found with one hand missing and body integrity intact.
A local police officer suggested that the child had been mauled to death by one or more crocodiles. An autopsy on the 6-year-old's body has been ordered.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, while the child's parents will be charged with murder.
