On the other hand, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, in a statement, congratulated Lai Ching-te on his victory and conveyed his congratulations to the people of Taiwan for "demonstrating the strength of their robust democratic system and electoral process".
The presidential elections in Taiwan, which is in a sovereignty dispute with China, resulted in the victory of the incumbent Vice President Lai, the candidate of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
