Reaction to Trump's NATO statement: "Dangerous and shocking" Reaction to Trump's NATO statement: "Dangerous and shocking"

US President Joe Biden spoke at the event held in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, as part of the 3rd anniversary of the raid on the Congress building on January 6, 2021 and the start of the election campaign.

Targeting former US President Donald Trump in his first election speech, Biden said, "We are here today to answer the most important questions. Is democracy still the sacred cause of the United States? Whether democracy is still the sacred cause of the United States is the most important question of our time, and it is the issue of the 2024 elections. Donald Trump's campaign is about him, not about the United States, not about you. Donald Trump's campaign is obsessed with the past, not the future. He is ready to destroy our democracy, to put himself in power. Our campaign is different." Biden said, "3 years ago, we saw with our own eyes the angry mob attacking the US Capitol. When you first turned on the television, you almost couldn't believe what was happening. For the first time in our history, rioters came to stop the transfer of power in the United States for the first time by breaking windows, breaking doors, attacking the police. More than 140 police officers were injured. Jill and I attended the funeral of the police officers who died as a result of the events of that day. They died because of Donald Trump's lies, he promised to be 'crazy' and he was. He told the crowd to fight like 'hell' and all hell broke loose. Donald Trump watched on TV in the small dining room outside the Oval Office as the US was attacked from within. The whole nation watched in horror. The whole world watched in disbelief and Trump did nothing." Emphasizing that Trump's failure to tell the crowd to "stop" that night was one of the worst derelictions of duty of a president in US history, Biden said, "A record number of 81 million people voted for me and the end of his presidency. Trump lost the race by 7 million." Referring to Trump's claims that the presidential elections in 2020 were rigged, Biden said, "Let's be clear about the 2020 elections. Trump used every legal means he could to cancel the election. But the laws brought Trump back to the fact that I won the election and he was the loser. There was only one thing left, only one action he could take, the violence on January 6th," he said.

"He uses the same language as Nazi Germany"

Biden said, "Trump talks about poisoning the blood of Americans, using the same language as Nazi Germany. He proudly shares on social media the words that best describe his 2024 campaign: revenge, power, dictatorship. There is no confusion about who Trump is and what he plans to do. We all know who Donald Trump is. The question we need to answer is, who are we? That is what is at stake. Who are we? We just need to remember who we are. We are the United States. We are the only nation in the world that comes out stronger from every crisis, from every crisis we enter." Biden called Trump, who is seen as a possible rival in the presidential election in November, "a fundamental threat to democracy."
