The United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) reported that more than 1200 children under the age of 5 have died in 9 camps in Sudan in the last 5 months due to measles and malnutrition.

The child deaths occurred between May 15 and September 14 and were documented by UN teams in the region.

Allen Maina, the agency's director of public health, said there were thousands of suspected cases of cholera in other parts of Sudan.

The country is witnessing clashes between the Sudanese army, led by General Abdel Fattah Burhan, and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo.

The fighting has turned the capital Khartoum, as well as other cities, into a war zone.
