Apple is looking to strike a deal with Google to leverage its Gemini AI model for features on the iPhone, Bloomberg reports. The company already has an agreement with Apple as the preferred search engine provider for the Safari browser on iPhones.

With the new deal, Apple reportedly wants to license Google's AI technology to deliver AI-powered features in iOS updates later this year. Bloomberg says the company is also in talks with OpenAI to potentially use GPT models.

In February, Apple CEO Tim Cook said the company would introduce production AI capabilities later this year. The company's job postings from last year show that Apple is working on numerous internal and external tools powered by manufacturing AI. However, rumors of leveraging third-party AI technology through partnerships with other companies could also mean that Apple's own AI efforts are not progressing as expected. Only time will tell.

Apple is expected to introduce iOS 18, which will have more artificial intelligence features, at WWDC, Apple's developer conference in June.

It should be noted that neither company has made an official statement on the subject for now.
